Choosing a consultant.

It's sometimes a tough decision choosing a consultant.

Clients need to consider:

↳ Why change is needed.
↳ Why it’s a priority now.
↳ Why this consultant is the best fit.

Other factors include risks, politics, past experiences, and resources.

So, how to stand out?

Most consultancy positioning is similar:

⇥ Self-centered.
⇥ Generic.
⇥ Undifferentiated.

To stand out:

↳ Focus on industry issues.
↳ Share your opinion.
↳ Offer a distinct perspective.

Poke fun at generic messages. Make it clear how things should be done properly. Reveal your beliefs and values.

That's how to stand out.
That's how to be the go-to voice.
That's how clients make their mind up.

What's really going on

“ … all of us hold on tightly to many things we don’t really have.” This line from Patrick Rhone’s book - This Could Help - got me thinking about our attitudes toward pipelines, relationships, and services.

Think Different

I love it when there's a seemingly Unreasonable Agenda. The Apple Think Different campaign epitomised this. Just look at the change makers: Albert Einstein: Questioned absolute space-time. Bob Dylan: Reimagined song meanings poetically. Martin Luther King Jr.: Envisioned equality beyond segregation. Richard Branson: Ignored business conventions fearlessly.
